In the world of Photography, it is an almost taboo subject to discuss actual printing costs.  Let's break some taboos! Consumer brand cartridges for modern desktop inkjet printers cost around #10 + VAT to buy. The cartridges generally contain around around 13ml of good quality ink, of which you get to use around 10ml!  The remainder goes to waste. An average A4 photographic colour or mono print uses around 1ml of this ink, which means that you are paying ONE POUND + VAT! In ink for every A4 you produce.  Changing to Lyson professional inks supplied via a continuous ink system lowers this cost to TWENTY PENCE + VAT for an A4! – I calculate that if you are printing less that six A4s per week, it is usually best to stay with the original consumer brand inkset.  Over six A4s per week, and you can easily justify the change to Lyson bulk inks.  As far as paper cost goes, Lyson have just reduced their prices by twenty percent, and are now competitive alongside even consumer quality papers: A Lyson 265gsm Pro Photo Gloss or Satin works out at 32p per sheet for an A4, and 68p per sheet for an A3.  Inkjet printing in-house has never been cheaper, and the savings to be achieved by adopting Lyson inks and media are clear to see.
